Although Australia was my first real adventure abroad, it wasn’t my first travel experience. My father was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, and while we visited several times during my childhood, my memories are mostly from photos.

Except for one legendary breakfast incident that my dad loves to bring up in every single phone call. We were at a hotel in Uruguay, and none of my siblings wanted to speak Spanish. Finally, my sister decides to order a ham and cheese toast. The waiter, being polite, repeats, “Una tostada de jamón y queso?” And my sister, in a moment of sheer genius, responds, “without prune!” Yep. I know. To this day, my dad can’t stop laughing about it because her reply made absolutely no sense.

Capturing Travel Memories

So, here’s a tip: take pictures and record videos as much as you can. Trust me, it’s great to have more than just your fuzzy memories to remember a place or an experience. Plus, you’ll have plenty of material to share and laugh about later. Honestly, if it weren’t for the stories, pictures, and videos from others inspiring me, I might never have embarked on this crazy life abroad. So go ahead, capture those moments—they might just inspire your next big adventure!
